How To Get Google Verified

UPDATE:   Google has updated there system as of Oct. 1 2010 making it possible for 1and1 account holders to verify new accounts/web sites. This includes us. If you have a site that has been verified prior to Oct 1, we suggest you leave it in your Google webmasters.
Anothe way is to simply drop the google file into the top directory file via ftp. But every time you do an update it will have to be reinstalled.

How to get Google verified (1and 1 steps here)

Google web masters requires you verify your site to prove that you are the site owner. This is done so people cannot steal your valuable information. A google “meta tag” or what they call Meta name tag looks like this: <meta name=”verify-v1″ content=”tm7VEVVL9yFMf+t+gYc05oQH2qX8PwUN+PVNbl+mF DU=” />

There are two ways to have your website verified with Google:

Meta Tag

1. Is with a meta tag. You can upload the file in between the head tag.

File (basically you name the page the code)

File Verification

2. Is with a file. The file is simply a page extension. (This is commonly used for people with site builders that cannot just ftp OR upload into the head tag.

Both are very simple. For Blue Voda Fans, Here is step, by step instructions with a meta tag:

1. Right click in your Blue Voda website builder on your “Index”(or home page) page.

2.Go to “page html”

3.Cut and paste the Google Meta name tag into the “between head tag”

4.Click ok

5.Publish your page

6.Verify with Google in your Google web master account!

It is that simple! The meta tag you upload will tell Google you are the rightful owner.
Regular web masters should understand what Google is telling you.
If you are using a website builder that does not allow you to upload or use ftp, or you do not know how to, you can add a file.

The bad part is your page extension will need to end with .html.
Ex: www.mysite.com/myotherpage.html and not all site builders do so. Sometimes the ones that do not have a way to place the tag in between the header end with HTMl like 1and1. Site builders like Blue Voda and NetIDnow have a place you can actually ad the meta tag to.
Here is step, by step directions for those that do not have a way to upload a meta tag:
1.Create a page and name it the file code that Google gives you.

2.Upload the page
This is how it will look: http://liftgateworld.com/googlea620e3ff2ed0f799.html . In this case I made the “about” page my verification file. You can see I just made a page called googlea620e3ff2ed0f799 and uploaded it. When you make a page it becomes a file.
The down fall to this is if you cannot hide your page, people will see your file. They CANNOT do anything with it, only you can use it with your account that Google gives you. I don’t like this because it looks funny. And if you cannot hide the page like with 1and1 it is an eyesore. But most people do not even notice.

Both ways work. If you have any questions just send us an email!
