Travel is something we have done since we were born. No matter if it was down the street or to another country. Air travel is the largest industry by far with bus and trains following. For local travel the automobile leads the pack. Imagine the trillions we would all save if we all rode motorcycles or mopeds? If we do not start thinking light years ahead our children will have no future on planet earth. The only cars on the roads should be small, tiny and sufficient.  I think even Australia has done the same. Why does it take the USA so liong to follow? Why isn’t gm and Chrysler making smart cars like mad? Wake up America, some of you have 3 cars and you don’t even need it. One of the worse things a person could have said to me when asking the price on a high dollar BMW, was: People who can afford a BMW do not care what the gas mileage is. This was so very wrong! That is why he was the sales person and not the owner of the BMW. People do care and I am sure there are wealthy people that care about the environment.
